From December to February the village above the frozen lake becomes the most concentrated address in the Alps: Badrutt's Palace and the Kulm fill with families who have wintered here for generations, the lake carries polo and White Turf, and the evenings — dinner at altitude, a club night that never advertises itself — are as formal or as easy as the company makes them.
